FYI: Cardinal Roger Mahony is among his own today. According to About Dot Com his eminence will be blessing animals downtown at 2 PM:
"Merchants of Olvera Street and a cow decorated with flowers lead a procession of gaily decorated animals past a priest delivering the blessing. The procession with Cardinal Roger Mahony begins at 2 pm. Animals and their owners assemble on the north side of the Plaza."
I'm hoping the Cardinal will take this moment to tear off his collar in front of everyone and say it's all a scam. Just read the New Testament to follow Jesus. Then he'll pawn his golden crosses and other jewels and give the money to the people trying to keep businesses running on Olvera Street, and never will he return to the cheated wealth in which he lives.
But he won't.

St. Franics of Assisi's Feast, the TRADITIONAL day to bless animals, has long come and gone, on the liturgical calendar.
But, hey, since when did any facts get in the way of Rog 'Mahal' Mahony PR spin machine?
Someone call PETA, or the SPCA, a known multi decade serial pedophile enabler, with a personal body count of raped, sodomized, orally copulated, physically maimed, mentally tortured, extorted, bribed, deliquented, hard-balled, kidnapped, suicided, racketeered, embezzled, perjured, and murdered children (at least 1,200 just in CA in the last 30 years under Mahony)is not fit to bless aminals.
Hmmmm, what are the statutes of limitations on CRUELTY TO ANIMALS?!
Maybe some non-bribed or extorted DA, or law enforcement official, can get a charge to stick, on the DEVIL'S OWN (Mahony), of the LA Criminal Archdiocese.
